POSITION DESCRIPTION  

The Compliance Supervisor is the first level of compliance management, supervising departmental staff (e.g., Compliance Analysts, Compliance Auditors, Compliance Coordinators, etc.) on their day-to-day responsibilities and personally performing specific compliance activities to ensure departmental goals and objectives are met on a timely basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Serve as the primary contact for coordinating compliance projects and assignments of departmental staff
  • Supervise and act as a resource for the day-to-day assignments of departmental staff, to ensure departmental goals and objectives are met on a timely basis
  • Train departmental staff on their job responsibilities, assignments, and as needed
  • Assist other members of Compliance management with and make recommendations regarding performance reviews, disciplinary action, and performance improvements/correction of departmental staff
  • Promulgate a collaborative, approachable working relationship with departments throughout the enterprise, while maintaining the integrity of the compliance function
  • Perform or assist other members of Compliance management with investigations of compliance concerns that are raised
  • Provide guidance and assist in the identification, development, implementation, and maintenance of compliance policies, procedures, and work instructions
  • Update policies and procedures and ensure they remain current and comply with regulatory laws and standards
  • Research and summarize complex documents and regulations
  • Perform and monitors audits
  • Process and respond to external audits or inquiries, from regulatory agencies (e.g., ZPIC, OIG, MAC, etc.)
  • Collect, organize, and analyze information pertaining to a variety of compliance activities and operations (e.g., audits, monitors, investigations, etc.) and provide feedback to other members of Compliance management on these activities and any compliance issues that may arise
  • Train, educate, and provide feedback on improvement opportunities for non-departmental staff/providers on compliance matters
  • Maintain electronic systems (e.g., databases)
  • The Compliance Supervisor reports to and coordinates assignments from both Compliance Officers and the USMM Chief Compliance Officer. Conflicts in priorities, workload etc. are to be resolved between Compliance management
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE  

  • Bachelorís degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of compliance, regulatory, legal, or business experience in a healthcare setting
  • 1+ years of management experience
  • Compliance certification (e.g., CHC) or obtaining said certification within a year of start of employment
  • Compliance certification (CHC could count for both requirements), coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCA, CCS and CCS-P) or similar credentials as determined by the USMM Chief Compliance Officer or obtaining said credentials within a year of start of employment
  • Excellent organization and follow-up skills including the ability to handle competing priorities and meet all deadlines and commitments
  • Excellent understanding and analytical ability of compliance standards
  • Excellent communication and people skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, applicable electronic systems and computers
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE  
  • Juris Doctor, CPA, or advanced degree
