Position Description

The Home Health/Hospice Intake Specialist is required to work in conjunction with the Director of Intake/HHHC’s to ensure current knowledge in regard to all FISS, basic commercial and Medicaid State Hospice Regulations for Hospice Admissions. The Home Health/Hospice Intake Specialist is to support all home health/hospice branches with inquiries relating to admissions. The Intake Specialist is also responsible for processing all referrals, ensuring that orders are process in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.  The Home Health/Hospice Intake Specialist (Non-Clinical) will be working under the direct supervision of the Director of Intake/HHHC’s to maintain the day to day functions of the Home Health/Hospice Intake department.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for working with the Director of  Intake to maintain all current Medicare and Medicaid regulations designated by FISS and State guidelines, related to Admissions.
  • Responsible for creation and transfer of all client accounts to appropriate HHC/Hospice Agency
  • Responsible for initial insurance verification and accurate determination of  placement
  • Has and maintains a working knowledge of all applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the organizational Code of Ethics, as well as other policy and procedures to ensure adherence to USMM mission.
  • Has working knowledge of CMS/HIQH/HIQA/FISS/ELGA/ELGH
  • Has working knowledge of Commercial/Medicare Advantage/WC/Liability Insurance
  • Remains updated with Third party payer, including but not limited to accrediting regulations
  • Required to learn and comply with all CHAP/Survey requirements along with special projects and regular weekly/monthly reporting
  • Assists VPA/PSC/Grace Hospice to maintain clear and timely communication
  • Data Entry/Self QA
  • The ability to perform continuous detailed tasks with frequent interruptions and reprioritizations 

REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • High School diploma
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in health care related field
  • Knowledge of home health and hospice regulation as it relates to Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial insurance preferred
  • Computer skills:   Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Strong customer service, organizational and interpersonal skills with excellent multi-tasking and prioritization
  • Professional demeanor, self-motivation and dependability
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all personnel levels within the organization

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience with EMR
